Thousand Oaks Screen Repair

For the most simple screen repair that will make a world of difference is the screen door upgrade.  This is a service we offer when the frame of the sliding screen is still good enough to upgrade it.  The actual upgrade includes new rollers, new screen mesh, adjustment, track brushing and lubing.

What we do to get the door screen to work better than when we started with it is, If the frame is slightly bent,we try and fix that, then put on the new rollers which really makes the screen roll like new.  And finally we brush out the tracks and lube them and rescreen the frame.  All this will get your patio door ready for many more seasons to come.

We service: Thousand Oaks, Lynn Ranch, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Lake Shearwood, Newbury Park, Camarillo, Conejo Valley, Moorpark, Happy Camp, Santa Rosa, Pleasant Valley, Simi Valley, Woodranch, Woodland Hills, Westhills, Calabasas, Oxnard and Ventura.

Thousand Oaks sliding screen door

When a sliding screen door starts giving you problems sliding, it might be time for repair. We come out check it to see is the frame is in good condition, then we check the roller set to see if it still turns good.  All four rollers should spin good and adjust up and down.  If you use a screw driver you should be able to raise and lower each wheel.

If the doors frame is good and straight we should be able to rescreen it,our different meshes are, regular fiberglass for simple insect protection, then we carry the pet screen which is for dogs cats and kids.  This pet proof mesh is 7 times stronger then the regular screen mesh and also last just as long.

Thousand Oaks Screen Door

One of my jobs today in Thousand oaks was a bent screen repair. It looked like someone walked right into it and the aluminum frame did not hold, the handle area can’t hold any weight. Once a frame bends like this you can’t fix it, I can try to straighten the frame out but it will not work properly.

New sliding screen doors should be made on the spot for a better fit.  I do all my work onsite and carry 90%  of the materials needed for most jobs.   service: Thousand Oaks, Lynn Ranch, Westlake Village, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Lake Shearwood, Newbury Park, Camarillo, Conejo Valley, Moorpark, Happy Camp, Santa Rosa, Pleasant Valley, Simi Valley, Woodranch, Woodland Hills, Westhills, Calabasas, Oxnard and Ventura

Adjusting a sliding screen door so it does not stick

Sliding screen doors are made to slide smooth across you tracks without having to push or pull them. The first thing that will need adjusting is the rollers on the top of the screen door frame and on the bottom. You are going to need a fillips screw driver for raising and lowering the roller up or down. Some are made out of plastic and others are metal ball bearing, these slide the best and will usually be able to work when trying to fix them.

Make sure to use the encasement where the lock is to guide you in leveling it properly, the right and left rollers will tilt the patio door from one side to the other until it is as straight as can be. If you detect other problems like a bent, cracked or warped frame this too will cause it to not caught. One of the most common problems that happens to a sliding screen doors is someone walking through it and bending and breaking it, outside of dogs, cats and kids this is one of the reasons we are in business.

Repair Screen

The Screen Frame

There are many ways to repair a screen, lets start with a sliding screen door. The most important part is the frame and the corners that actually hold it together, they need to be in good shape.  If the frame is off square because the metal corners are weakened then you might consider replacing it. The was to tell if you have this problem is to place your foot on the bottom frame of the screen door so it can’t move.

Next place your right and left hand on both right and left frames of the screen and gently rock it side by side.   If the top frame in the top channel slides an inch or two but not the bottom, your corners are weak. This does not always mean you will have to do a total screen replacement but the sliding screen will need to have work done on it.  Sometimes a simple adjustment will help the problem.

The Rollers

Now comes the second most important part the roller part.  There are two types, the plastic roller and the metal ball bearing roller, both do their job well.  The plastic wheel will last less the the metal and tend to crack and come off the track after a few years of wear and tear. Te metal wheels are the best and we recommend them to all our customers. they slide better on the the track t, they don’t stick or fall off the track, also they slide smootm.

The Handle

The handle on a screen door comes in, plastic and the colors are usually black and white.  The other type is a metal which usually comes only in and upgraded screen door from what comes when the home manufacture installs when the home is made. When a replacement sliding screen door is installed you have several options and some higher end screens come with metal handles. Some have a lock latch in and out.

The Screen Mesh Material

Last is the fiberglass mesh screen material, whatever you want to call it, bug screen, insect screen, mosquito mesh, it’s all the same, It keeps the bugs out! The three types of screen we carry are the pet screen, solar screen (sun screen) and the clear invisible screen which is the charcoal fiberglass screen. If your screen door is over 8 to 10 years old and the material is turning white or has lines running up and down on it, it’s time to rescreen it.  If you have a hole in it or a tear, it’s time to rewire it.

Keep in mind that all jobs are different and someone who specializes in screens should check them properly. You should have a mobile screen service come out and give you a free estimate, this will give you the proper diagnosis and a price up-front.  My areas are!
